Azmi BISHARA
Intellectuel arabe de premier plan, philosophe politique et chercheur, il est l’auteur de nombreux ouvrages et publications universitaires consacrés à la pensée politique, à la théorie sociale et à la philosophie. Son œuvre majeure est son ouvrage en deux parties intitulé Religion and Secularism in Historical Context (Religion et laïcité dans leur contexte historique). La première partie, Religion and Religiosity (Religion et religiosité), a été publiée en 2013. Elle a été suivie en 2015 d’une seconde partie en deux volumes : Secularity and Secularization: The Intellectual Trajectory (Laïcité et sécularisation : la trajectoire intellectuelle) et Secularity and Theories of Secularization (Laïcité et théories de la sécularisation).
Ses ouvrages les plus récents en arabe sont La Question de l’État : philosophie, théorie et contexte (2023), dont le second volume s’intitule L’État arabe : origines et évolution (2024) ; ainsi que Palestine : questions de vérité et de justice (2024), initialement publié en anglais en 2022 par Hurst Publishers à Londres, et paru simultanément avec The Flood: The War on Palestine in Gaza (2024).

Tauris : Understanding Revolutions: Opening Acts in Tunisia (2021) ; Egypt: Revolution, Failed Transition and Counter-Revolution (2022) ; et Syria 2011–2013: Revolution and Tyranny before the Mayhem (2023). Dans ces ouvrages, il propose à la fois une analyse théorique approfondie et une évaluation complète et lucide des révolutions dans ces trois pays arabes.
Son prochain livre en anglais, intitulé Arduous Paths: On the Theory and Practice of Democratic Transition, paraîtra chez Hurst Publishers.
Il est directeur général du Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) et président du conseil d’administration du Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, établissement fondé par l’ACRPS.
